Our History
1978-1983. Lindsay Rogers was a nationally ranked skateboarder in Canada, and 2 time National youth skateboard champion in 1979 and 1982. During the winter months Lindsay started experimenting with and making crude snowboards based on the early Snurfers, Burton and Sims snowboards he had seen in some of the skateboard magazines of the day. In 1982 Lindsay's shop sponsor suggested that they could sell his snowboards in their store if he came up with a brand name and worked on getting the finish and graphics to look more professional. Encouraged by that, in 1983 Lindsay formed Powderstick Snowboards Ltd., one of the first contemporary snowboard companies in the industry.
1984 - 1991 Powderstick became a top Canadian snowboard brand and had retailers and distributors in 10 countries. By the early 90's Powderstick had a very advanced factory and was building some of the most advanced boards on the market. In 1991 the company was taken over by another Canadian company, and Lindsay and the Factory were relocated to Vancouver to form what would become Option Snowboards.
1992 - 1998. Lindsay worked for Option and FBM composites as a board designer, equipment and machinery designer and sales manager. Option in particular grew very fast and became a top brand in the world earning a Canadian Exporter of the year award in 1997. In 1996 Lindsay left to set up and run a snowboard factory for Kuusport Mfg in Toronto Canada through 1998.
In 1998 Linday made the desision to leave Kuusport Mfg and form a small but very high end custom ski and snowboard company called the Custom Shop. The Custom Shop was the first company in the world offering people the ablility to design and order completely custom skis and snowboards over the internet. As part of this company Lindsay also opened SnowboardMaterials.com the world's first online ski and snowboard materials supplier for small to medium sized manufactureres and individual buyers. SnowboardMaterials.com is still one of the main suppliers of materials, machinery and technololgy in the industry.
2000 - Present SnowboardMaterials.com was re-located to Los Angeles in 2000 and its sibling company Action Sports Technology Inc was formed in 2004. These businesses continue to operate as two of the main suppliers of machinery, technology and materials in the extreme sports industry.
